More than four out of five dentists surveyed reveal that texting during dental treatment a common problem

More than four out of five dentists surveyed by the Chicago Dental Society revealed that patients send and receive text messages on their cell phones while receiving dental care. (See our video of dentists discussing the issue.) The survey was conducted between July 16th and July 25th via email and among dentists in the Chicago Dental Society’s Facebook Fan Page. (more…)

I finally decided to bite the bullet and get orthodontic therapy! After an orthodontic assessment I was told I needed to have lower 5’s extracted. The principal at my practice had no qualms about taking them out for me. I flirted with the idea of IV sedation mainly to see what it was like, but it worked out very difficult to organise in regards to escorts etc, besides who knows what I would have said under the influence! Mergers Create Two New Departments: Cariology and Comprehensive Care and Periodontology and Implant Dentistry

Effective November 1, NYU College of Dentistry merged the Department of Cariology and Operative Dentistry and the Department of General Dentistry and Management Science to form the Department of Cariology and Comprehensive Care. The Ashman Department of Implant Dentistry and the Department of Periodontics were also merged to form the Dr. Arthur Ashman Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. (more…)

FDA Approves Generic Aricept to Treat Dementia Related to Alzheimer’s Disease

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first generic versions of Aricept (donepezil hydrochloride) orally disintegrating tablets on Dec. 11. Donepezil hydrochloride is indicated for the treatment of dementia related to Alzheimer’s disease. (more…)

Facebook’s New Information-Sharing Options Attract Criticism

Facebook Inc.’s changes to its user settings, which made more information public by default, drew complaints from privacy groups concerned that people will unwillingly expose their photos and personal data.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center, the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the American Civil Liberties Union say the new settings expose too much private information. The changes, rolled out this week, make information such as gender and location easier to find outside of Facebook on the Internet, said Nicole Ozer, a policy director at the ACLU. (more…)
