Toothbrushing less than twice a day linked to increased CV risk

London, UK – Individuals who do not brush their teeth twice a day have an increased risk of heart disease, a new study shows [1].

Dental surgeons to ballot on strike action

Public dental surgeons are to be balloted on action, including possible industrial action, in the event that the HSE makes further “unilateral” changes to their terms and conditions of employment – says Irish Times

Young Dentists explore the issue of ‘Worth’ with their Peers

Recently qualified dentists at this year’s Young Dentist Conference spent the day discussing their concerns about their future within dentistry, with a panel of other young business people at a similar stage in a variety of careers as well as with fellow dentists.

The expert panel of speakers included Neal Raval, a newly qualified dentist now working in Germany, Saaqib Ali winner of the FMC Young Dentist of the Year Award and James Hamill, a Northern Irish Dentist with an award winning practice. (more…)

Bad Breath Linked To Bacteria That Cause Stomach Ulcer And Cancer

New research from Japan found bacteria that cause stomach ulcers and cancer living in the mouths of some people with bad breath, even though they did not show signs of stomach illnesses.

The study was the work of Dr Nao Suzuki from Fukuoka Dental College in Fukuoka, Japan and colleagues and is published in the December issue of the Journal of Medical Microbiology. (more…)

Cynthia Bower will start on APRIL FOOLS’ DAY — in a move branded a �cruel joke� by relatives who lost loved ones.

Stafford Hospital scandal: ‘We were right all along,’ say grieving families

FAMILIES of patients who died at Stafford Hospital said today they had been vindicated in their campaign to expose problems with standards of care on the wards says thesentical.

A shocking report by the Healthcare Commission highlighted low staffing levels, inadequate nursing and a lack of equipment and leadership at the hospital. Patients were left lying in soiled beds and some were so dehydrated they had to drink out of flower vases. (more…)
