Implant dentistry is not a novelty any more. In fact, the use of oral implants in reconstructive dentistry has become a widely accepted and well documented treatment option. The large volume of research in the field and the consequent development of oral implant systems have resulted in an increased reliability and predictability of oral implant reconstruction. University curricula however have been slow in adjusting to the changes brought by Implant Dentistry. Most European dental schools are currently considering the introduction of various aspects of implant dentistry in their undergraduate curriculum, while the diversity of education offered at a post-graduate level is extreme. A response to these facts, the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) took the initiative to organise a consensus workshop aiming to produce the necessary guidelines for the implementation of Implant Dentistry education in European universities. Work the World arranges electives and placements for Dental students and newly qualified professionals in Ghana and India. Each placement is structured on an individual basis and our programmes are constantly developing and expanding. They also run specially developed outreach initiatives, which run at set times through the year and follow and routine. These projects provide free hands-on dental care to villages that don’t have a dentist. Team of 6-8 dental elective students will work with an experienced dentist to set up temporary clinics and provide dental care. (more…)
